Microchip
Dogs and cats imported to South Africa are required to be microchipped with an ISO 11784/11785 compliant 15 digit pet microchip.
Rabies Vaccination
All dogs and cats entering South Africa are required to have a valid rabies vaccination prior to import.
Other Vaccinations or treatments
General health vaccinations are recommended for travel to South Africa. Flea and tick treatments as well as heartworm treatment are required prior to the flight.
Rabies Titer Blood Test
There is no Rabies titer testing required for dogs and cats to South Africa. However pets are required to have passing blood test results by an approved laboratory for various other diseases including Brucella canis, Trypanosoma evansi, Babesia gibsoni, Dirofilaria immitis and Leishmania for import to South Africa.
Health certificate
A health check and certificate endorsed by a government veterinarian within ten days of arrival is required for all dogs and cats imported to South Africa.
Import Permit
Import permits are required for all pets entering South Africa.
Banned Breeds
There are no breeds banned from import to South Africa.
Quarantine
There may be quarantine required in South Africa dependent on the country of export.
Preparation Time
We recommend you start preparing your dog or cat atleast a month in advance of your planned flight date. Puppies and Kittens may take longer to prepare.
In order to import into South Africa all pets must travel as manifested cargo.
